Monado:
a Xenoblade Chronicles
fan zine
The Monado Zine is a fan project celebrating Xenoblade Chronicles, one of my favorite games of all time. I got to collaborate with a group that I've been creating projects with for years, and this one was one of the most passionate projects we had done by far. Our goal was to celebrate the game's rich narrative by creating art pieces and writing that filled in the gaps and highlighted parts of the story that were not directly shown in the game, executed by both artists and writers alike.
With complete creative freedom, I set out to create a brand identity that referenced graphical elements in the game's user interface, while adding my own twist to it.
For the brand identity, cyan and pale yellow as the primary colors best represented the game and its various elements, with a brown background that is seen all over in the game's UI. The cyan color is a crucial part of the game's main weapon wielded by the protagonist, the Monado. Meanwhile, the pale yellow is a reference to the main antagonist character of the story, creating a balance between the two. The logo features a minimalistic silhouette of the weapon, while encompassing the zine's title on a page as a story that it tells.
The graphical elements area simplified version of recurring graphics in the game both in the character designs as well as menus.
